@mike @pluralistic I’m okay with this, it means I’m only 1.5 products away from being a $multibillionaire$ (and think of all the good one can do with that kind of money…)

Yesterday, not only did I learn that a family member has a freaking VOIP phone... in a fairly remote area... you know... where power outages are not exactly rare but...
Ok, so apparently they've had an internet outage for 10 days and all they get is the runaround from the provider.
10 DAYS!!! 😱
So I decide to use my google foo™ and see what I can find. I start with the provider's "Check for Outages" page.
I enter their address...

“We found that there’s this perfect one-to-one relationship. If a city increased its road capacity by 10%, then the amount of driving in that city went up by 10%.” One of the earliest, and still one of the best articles on why building bigger roads just leads to more driving. Call it #InducedDemand, or #JevonsParadox, or the #LawOfCongestion. Via WIRED, it’s worth a read and share.

For reasons I can't fathom, Internet Archive Scholar got attention today, a mass of it, painting it as a "new" service. Actually, it has been out there for about a year. BUT....
If beautifully structured access to academic citations by the millions is your bag or desperately needed tool, especially ones that are ONLY left in the Wayback Machine, you are in LUCK. And this will be your favorite day. Try it.
