To all Mastodon-admins: seems like there's an attack on all instances by troll accounts. Servers get slow because of it.
They use thousands of subdomains of activitypub-troll.cf. My 'pull' queues skyrocketed.
I now blocked the domain activitypub-troll.cf and all is back to normal. Please check if you're hit too.

Tell the truth — wouldn’t you like your city better if it had more streets like this one in Amsterdam?

@hacks4pancakes @ghusk @hdm Reitinger's law is that the damage from breaches increases every year by multiplying the prior figure by the number of #Infosec professionals who say "cyber wake-up call."
There's misinformation floating around about Mastodon. Clarifying things:
1. Mastodon doesn't rely on volunteers. It's a registered non-profit that employs people. Kind of like how Wikipedia and Mozilla are non-profits that employs people.
2. Many instances are run by volunteers but not all.
3. Mastodon is just one part of the Fediverse. Benefits of decentralization is that anyone can build on open protocols.
4. Mastodon is big, but Flickr and Tumbler are bigger -- they're joining the Fediverse
Google has released Chrome 108.0.5359.94/.95 for Windows, Mac, and Linux users to address a single high-severity security flaw, the ninth Chrome zero-day exploited in the wild patched since the start of the year.
This week, LastPass, and its parent company GoTo, both published blog posts about their recent data breach: http://tcrn.ch/3ucMvBx
But if you search for GoTo's blog post in Google, you won't find it, because GoTo hid its breach notice from search engines using "noindex" code.
The cloud is just someone else's computer, power, cooling system, underwater sea cables, networking equipment, data center and the land it sits on, control plane with support for Terraform, insurance policies, roadmaps, and a whole lot of people to build, secure, monitor, and support all of the software that runs on top.
@chadloder What is the centrist term that sits between Good and Evil?
(Asking for Eloon.)
@mcc @lchski @eaton oh and, I always try to keep everything common by using Zulu time in code and conversation.
But this is often followed by:
What is that time - wait what? Oh…
Or
Zulu?
Yes Z… UTC… GMT… 0 hour offset timezone…
UK time?
Yes, but no, they’re on daylight savings so no.
Okay what do I subtract/add… …
@mcc @lchski @eaton DATE MATH with global orgs using days of the week or relative descriptors.
Never say things like “Wednesday”, or tonight or tomorrow morning. There will be silence followed by
“Your Wednesday?” “Later this morning or my evening when you start your tomorrow which is my today?” “What time is it there? … is that am or pm?”
Or “You’ve book that for 3am on my weekend”
And “ah damn, the server has fallen over and everyone has gone to bed”
@jerry @GossiTheDog @bacon If you can give a list of followers in csv they can import it and merge in the missing followers.
