Interesting quirk of the PID namespace in the Linux kernel from this workshop.
Creating a bash shell in a new PID namespace doesn't actually move the process to the new namespace unlike other namespaces, only its future child processes. So when I echo the PID, it's not 1. However, when I call /bin/echo, it is given PID 1 in the child namespace, and then when it exits, the namespace becomes invalid.
