Unlike most animals, hatching is not automatic for Ae. aegypti. Rather, a developed larva can sit dormant inside its egg for months (perhaps years!), where it awaits the right cues. When it senses them, it can hatch within a few minutes! i.e., it’s a sensory-evoked behavior. 6/20

I'm a neuronal cell biologist, leading the NeuroCyto Lab in Marseille, France. We study the functional architecture of the axon down to the nanoscale. We ask: how do the cytoskeleton and scaffolds contribute in making this unique compartment both resilient and adaptable in physiological and pathological conditions? Part of this consists in making the best possible images of cells using advanced microscopy techniques - and these images can also be beautiful!

The longer I work in tech, the more clear it is to me what my problem is:

#JohnMastodon really isn't getting the level of appreciation that he deserves, if we're all being honest with ourselves.

I am getting various responses to this like, "Looking forward to your twitter archive creator! What happens with my twitter data when I upload it to your service? How do you expect me to upload a multi-gigabyte zip file?"

You don't know me very well. There is no upload at all. There's no service, no server. The data stays on your computer. Everything happens in the browser client

We are all so trained to assume that "web application" means "a server does the work"!

Twitter captures a real-time historical record of a couple of decades and the billions of individuals’ snapshots are irreplaceable.

The thought of all those tweets being erased makes me feel physically sick.
