Time for a re- #introduction!
👋 I'm Olivier Forget (you can call me Oliver), I'm part #Canadian, part #French, and US born. Grew up with a passion for #aviation, and #space. I was an #aerospace engineer for a while then started writing #software for a living.
Currently I'm building #dropserver which aims to give you a little place on the internet where you can easily run your own apps for your personal use.
I love #windsurfing / #wingfoiling. Also #camping, #cycling and #rockclimbing!
My first #toot on the woolly mammoth thing. I was rubbish at twitter, I'll probably be worse on Mastodon...but here are some neurons as a way of a premature apology :)

To ensure cars didn’t take back control of #Paris streets as the pandemic was “ending” (no, it hasn’t ended), like they have in so many cities, Mayor #AnneHidalgo made sure that 60k parking spaces and many streets were permanently transformed into seating for restaurants, people places and bike-lanes.
Leadership.

Most people that I meet on my photography adventures don't know that "taking pictures for Wikipedia" is a thing. So, when I'm out shooting, I often engage in conversations about how Wikipedia needs more photos. That's what happened this morning, when I took this image for the article "Greater white-fronted goose":

ATTENTION EVERYONE WRINGING THEIR HANDS OVER “#MASTODON ADMINS CAN READ MY DIRECT MESSAGES”: #SysAdmins have *always* been able to read your #email and DMs unless encrypted, including at the big #SocialNetworks and Internet providers. We used to have t-shirts that said, “I READ YOUR EMAIL.”
It’s just hitting now because you got used to places where the admins were kept away in their cubicles and data centers instead of greeting you at the front door.
I spent October drawing a bird every day as part of #InktobirdsNZ, and just uploaded the ones I'm happiest with to @WikiCommons under an open licence for anyone to reuse for any purpose. No permission required, just credit me. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Illustrations_by_Mike_Dickison
THE LORD’S PRAYER 5.0:
Our Father on Mastodon,
Harold be thy name.
Thy follows come,
Thy toots be done,
On the Fediverse as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily boosts,
And forgive us our replies as we also have forgiven those who have replied against us,
Lead us not into Twitter,
But deliver us from the evil one, Elon Musk.
For the kingdom, the power and the favorites are yours forever,
Amen 🙏
Way to go #nasa #artemis🤘😬

“Houston, we have a new record 🌎
On Saturday Nov. 26, at 8:40 a.m. ET, @NASA_Orion broke the record for the farthest distance traveled from Earth of a human-rated spacecraft. The record was previously held by Apollo 13 at 248,655 statute miles from Earth. Go Artemis!” - @nasa_johnson.
Reflections after 24 hours on #Mastodon... It's so chill. I didn't really recognize what the onslaught of incessant advertising was ruining the social network experience. It's *so refreshing* to come here and just see measured and meaningful conversations. I also see plenty of reflections by users that this is not a universal experience, so maybe it has something to do with me running my own server and really only seeing content from people I follow. But so far, its a breath of fresh air.
Since my once beloved doomscrolling site has been pivoted to an all-out shitposting service by new mgmt, I wrote about starting my own #Mastodon instance for #TechPolicyPress

I have a whole blog post in my head I may write if I find the motivation. Traditional API Gateways are becoming commodity. Innovation can happen on the experiences, modernizing both dev and ops. WebAssembly, edge deployments, remote debugging, GitOps, local stacks—oh my! But does this change have commercial opportunity for non-utility companies? Underlying it all… Do I really want to build another gateway in my career?
