Also, why am I sharing the source code so early in the development?
Working on various projects, I've found that it's always better to open source earlier rather than later.
Rather than waiting for an MVP, it's just better to choose a license and release what you have.
You don't have to enter into an exclusive relationship with one social media platform (aka billionaire)
I think this current urge folks are expressing where they feel they have to select one platform probably stems from corporate tech monopoly's influence on us
It's actually worse for billionaire's if you diversify your tech use - its more difficult to monetize you
Hello! I just moved to hachyderm.io from mastodon(dot)social, so #introduction time!
I'm Pete, I live in Michigan. I'm currently working as a software engineer at a medium-sized marketing outfit hacking on Rails. I used to work at Stripe and egghead with some folks that also happen to be here.
Thanks @nova for the cool instance!
Unordered incomplete list of things I'm into:

Hi 👋 #introduction from Japan.
I'm a software engineer in a SaaS tech company in Tokyo🇯🇵 I primarily work with Golang and TypeScript.

I'm not good at speaking and writing English, but hoping to make some new friends here😍
Thanks, @nova, for running the server!
When a GABAergic neuron synapses onto the axon of a sensory neuron, what happens?
Turns out, in the proprioceptors of the locust leg (chordotonal somatosensory neurons), "All the available evidence indicates that the inputs that occur during walking are depolarizing, inhibitory, synaptic inputs."
Depolarizing, inhibitory. How's that possible? Depolarizing because of where the resting potential of the axon is (which is different than the dendrite's), and the particularities of the GABA receptor on the receiving axons. Inhibitory because the depolarization is subthreshold, reducing the membrane voltage potential and, therefore, reducing neurotransmitter release when a spike arrives.
What is this good for? Implementing an efference copy signal: "The rhythmic depolarization at different phases of the step cycle in different sensory neurons may represent a predictive action of the CNS when generating a motor pattern." That is, predicting when the proprioceptor will fire, and by how much, as a function of the self-induced motion. So this signal is subtracted in order to be able to measure (and react to appropriately) any unexpected signal (such as the leg skidding or hitting a rock).

The number of users by instance in #mastodon is highly unequal. Some servers (mastodon.social) have a significant fraction of the number of users. If the ubiquitous "rich-get-richer" (RGR) phenomenon kicks in, we might end up with a couple of instances having all of the users. But did it kick in? Here is the relationship between instance's size and growth. There is a little bit of RGR, but some of the rapidly-growing instances are small. Decentralization also in how the network grows.

Hey all y'all #PostgreSQL people, did you know there is a @planetpostgresql account here?
Super useful, seems to work just like over on that birdsite.
Wheee, Hitchhikers' Guide running on my RC2014
Believe it or not, I actually had to do some hex editing to get this to work. Turns out the sequences on here didn't cooperate with the terminal board. This blog post from someone trying to get it to work on their Osborne had the offsets to edit though: https://www.richardloxley.com/2018/04/28/osborne-restoration-part-17-text-adventure-games/
Hi and welcome! 👋
I'm Gina aka foosel. I'm a full-time nerd, full-time open source maintainer and creator of OctoPrint ("the snappy web interface for your 3d printer"), and in my free time I also happen to game (video games and boardgames), bake bread (since before the pandemic even!), go bouldering or work on way too many side projects.
Has anyone listened to "Squirrel Girl: The Unbeatable Radio Show", the podcast series?
It's genuinely my favourite piece of superhero fiction in ages
Squirrel Girl, aka Doreen Green, is a computer science student who has been outed as a super hero. So she starts a college radio show with her friends to help people by providing advice to callers
It's just so good! So beautifully college radio, right down to the theme song

I was hoping to do some fun data vis, but will save that for another day!
Hello everyone!
As far as introductions go, DO YOU KNOW SPACE?
What do you know about SPACE, exactly?
I'm here to help you KNOW MORE about SPACE and also fill your timeline with thoughts of a multiverse and serenity.
Give me a follow for hourly pictures and articles from JPL photoblog

PS if you like this - give my author @ole a follow, he has more bots
So, I know lots of people are wary of self promoting #OnHere, but one of the best things about the bird was finding out what everyone was doing.
Selfishly, I *desperately* want to read your papers and blog posts and add books to my TBR piles and find out when you're at a conference or on the radio or launching a pilot or whatever it is you do. Please keep sharing that - with a CW if necessary and plenty of hashtags to make it discoverable.
